Why DIVE RAID does not use divers ID numbers
Why DIVE RAID does not have diver ID numbers
When training agencies first set up the certification tracking system, computerisation and associated programs were non-existent to track certifications. At first everything was done with student numbers cross referenced manually to the diver’s demographics. That is, the only way initially training agencies could track and verify student certs was to have name, address, dive centre, PIC number, instructor, instructor number, etc. Today all is totally different.
In this electronic records age all that is needed is an email address and a data base for changes, additions, etc. Even C Cards are now eCards for anyone looking to utilize the latest technology as is the case with RAID and why Dive RAID do not need a PIC number, Instructor number, etc. That is, the divers email address is now their ePIC Card number as such. Obviously, this evolution is why Dive RAID does not need to have PIC numbers – all is online and with the ability to change your email address and other details all on line as is appropriate (e.g. girls converting from maiden to married names, updating photo as you age, etc).
Also the email address is better, faster and more efficient in contacting a diver and why other training agencies are scrambling to get divers past and present to give them their email address. In other words RAID is ahead of the curve being totally online.
