Maldives Dive Sites - South Atoll
Scuba Diving is an exhilarating experience must have while holidaying in
Maldives. The country is endowed with innumerable world-class dive locations. Maldives is a
cluster of thousands of emerald isles surrounded by azure water of the
Indian Ocean. South Male Atoll or South Kaafu Atoll is one of the atolls
in Maldives with several popular diving sites. Kaafu Atoll
comprises of North Male Atoll, South Male Atoll, Gaafaru Atoll and
Kaashidhoo Atoll as four geographical atolls.
With
strings of emerald isles, South Male Atoll beckons avid divers to taste a
real thundering experience inside the turquoise water of the sea. Maafushi
is the capital island of the atoll. Dotted with superb dive
sites, profuse marine species and tropical weather, South Male atoll is a
diver's paradise.
Vaadhoo Caves to the north side
of Vaadhoo reef houses soft corals, squirrelfish, tuna and soldier fish.
Kandooma Point is an ideal place for diving when the flow of
the water current is inward. Watch triggerfish, groupers, tuna and
hammerhead sharks. Yacht Thila located 1 km east of
Dhigufinolhu Island Resort is a small thila with a diameter of 50
meters. A small vessel was deliberately sunk down to give the experience
of wreck diving to tourist. The wreck houses moray eels, batfish and
groupers.
Vaagali Thila located 300 southeast of
the uninhabited island of Vaagali is a perfect dive site if you want to
spot sharks, manta rays, eagle rays, fusiliers and jackfish. Schooling
of snappers is often seen here. Gulhi Kandu, Cocoa
Thila, Lhosfushi Kandu, Medhu Faru, Embudhu Canyon, Bolifushi Thila and
Velassaru Faru are some of the dive sites in South
Male Atoll filled with rich and colorful marine species.
